I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart; I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power. I have told everyone in the great assembly of your unfailing love and faithfulness.
Psalm 40:10 (NLT)
I Have Told Everyone
Sometimes there seems to be an unwritten law that we are not to talk about something so personal as our faith. However, just the opposite is true. The Lord will show us creative, courteous and even courageous ways to share about the faithfulness of our Lord. We have experienced His saving power. Let’s share that good news!
Scarcely a week goes by, it seems, when some special day or observance is not marked somewhere in Canada. Morning radio hosts and Facebook often make reference to special days that we didn’t even know had been proclaimed. From legal holidays like Victoria Day and Canada Day, to days recognizing specific individuals or groups, to religious and cultural occasions, the Canadian calendar is replete with celebrations and commemorations. There is no central authority in Canada responsible for the proclamation of national days. Days declared special by any public body, including municipal, provincial or federal governments or even international bodies such as the United Nations, as well as any private association, cultural group or religious institution, can be recognized in Canada. Most designations of national days, weeks or months do not create any legal effect or obligations and are symbolic recognitions only.
In our day of social networking, both good and bad news has the ability to travel fast around the world. We post a picture of a wedding, a new baby, a new job – the positive things – or an illness or passing of a loved one – the difficult things – and our Facebook page is soon filled with comments. King David didn’t have Twitter or Facebook, but the good news he shared he did so in the Psalms, and we are still sharing those today. In Psalm 40:10 he writes “I have not kept the good news of your justice hidden in my heart; I have talked about your faithfulness and saving power. I have told everyone in the great assembly of your unfailing love and faithfulness.” Followers of Jesus Christ have been given a mandate – to share the goodness of God with others around us. We sometimes think that before we can share our faith we need to understand the details of Biblical truth and theology. But that isn’t so. David says that he simply shared the good news of all that God had done in his life. He had boldly declared the justice of God – that had confronted David in his sin and had forgiven him in His love and grace. David loved to declare all that the Lord had done for him. We are called to do the same thing. Who can you share with today the goodness of God in your life?
